Appearance:
Neory was the kind of girl that most would describe as cute. She was relatively short, standing just over five and a half feet tall, and from hard work in the weyr she had a hard toned rather than a soft curvy body. However, it was her face that made her cute. Her features were soft and kind, though there was a gleam in her brown eyes that reflected an intellegence and confidence. Her nose still had that little button nose aspect to it, and her cheek bones were gently curved. Her lips were full and tended to look most natural when she was smiling.
Since graduating, she had started to let her hair grow out, though she kept it manageable, able to be put under a helmet. While she occasionally liked to dress "like a girl," especially when duties as a Weyrwoman called for it, for the most part her dress reflected a work ethic that did not have time to mess with silliness. She tended to wear snug clothing - a loose but close fitting shirt and pants, so that they did not get in the way.
She likes to wear reds and golds, with occasional rich earth tones and blacks.
Having had two children has slightly altered her figure. She's still small, but a bit more full, curvier. She remains very fit, staying in fighting shape though there's very little chance that she and Sheluth will ever fight thread again.
Personality:
Neory tends to put others first, and puts the good of the weyr before anything else, but she is not a fur to be walked over. She will stand up for herself, what she believes in, or a friend in a hearbeat. However, most of the time she has a good sense of humor, able to take a joke and willing to turn it around on the other.
She has developed into quite a leader, though sometimes she has to be reminded to take some time and care for herself. She could easily work herself sick, making sure that the weyr is well provided for and in good shape. As such, she relies on those closest to her to make sure that she takes care of herself, and Sheluth who feels absolutely no guilt about being needy in order to make her Rider take a break.
Neory is a friendly person, always ready with a smile or a listening ear. While she does not have the time she would wish for now, she still values time with her close friends and cares about what those of lower rank think or feel.
Neory feels torn about the recent assignment. She understand that it is necessary, so she had no hesitation. However, she is riddled with guilt for her part in selecting those who would come with them, particularly for taking her brother away from his family.
History:
Neory was born in the Weyr, the result of a repeated liason between her parents. Noery and her sister Nedi often teased their parents that since they were each other's clear favorites, they might as well become weyr mates. However, the difference in their rank prevented the two from ever doing such.
Neory idolized her older siblings growing up, though she also made friends with her foster siblings. Having been pranked on from the time she was old enough to know, she had developed a well formed sense of humor. Much to Nedi's dismay, Neory idolized her older brother just a little more, even being his willing accomplice in pranks!
One particular prank that K'dyn had had Neory assist in had not ended well for her, though the adults all decided that she had been quite punished enough. Garyn - a bully who had picked on Parrin - had liked to boast about how he could always steal an extra treat from the kitchen and never get caught. K'dyn and Neory had decided to teach him a lesson. They had hid and watched Garyn still a bubbly pie, with a trip wire that he hadn't seen ready to be pulled taught when started to walk away. They had not quite realized how much stronger the older boy was, though, and as he tripped, Neory got pulled along with from her side of the wire. Her shoulder was dislocated and she got a small scar from being dragged the short distance on her lower right arm.
The prank earned her a reputation for standing up to bullies and for her determination. While she had to wear her arm in a sling for a while as her shoulder healed, she found herself respected among the other children of the weyr.
When she was old enough to start pulling her weight around the Weyr, she was started on small tasks - though given plenty of time to play with the other children and get into mischeif as well.
She started by running errands and carrying messages and small parcels between various parties. This allowed her to get to know several of the riders and other weyrfolk - it also allowed her to get to know the weyr inside and out!
When she was old enough, she got to help her mother in the kitchen, where she learned just how important each and every member of the Weyr was. She was good at encouraging the others to work and in making the various tasks of those she worked with enjoyable. It was not long before the Headwoman noticed and started assigning her tasks that would feed into her natural leadership skills. She also required that Neory spend some time each day learning to read and do figures.
For now she worked in different areas of the Weyr, to learn the specifics of the work done in the various areas. Most of her daily assignments often kept her near the Headwoman.
While Neory had occassionally shared a bed with a young man, she had not been in a relationship. Raised in the Weyr, she had no interest in making a permanent liason. She knew better than to try to form a relationship with a dragon rider, as few of them formed permament relationships because of the Flights, and that same view seemed to, in Neory's experience, trickle down to the guys in the Lower Caverns as well. And since Neory was not interested in a child of her own or in being limited by a man, she was quite fine with that.
Neory had almost given up hope that she would ever impress to a dragon, especially with the decision that girls could no longer stand except for for Golds, when she stood on the hot sands one final time, watching the hatching, hoping against hope. She fell in love with the Gold dragon, though she did allow herself a moment of sympathy when the dragon killed one of the other girls on the sand. However, everything vanished when the Gold claimed her, her world changing in ways that she could not imagine and would not trade.
Since being Impressed, Neory has struggled a little bit with what it means to be a Gold Rider, though she has tried to both befriend her fellow clutch-mates and to provide a good model. Even more importantly, she tries to see the needs of her yearmates, though she does not always succeed.
During the second wave of the illness, Neory had been struck hard, much harder than she had the first time. There was some concern in the weyr that the weyrling gold pair would not survive, but Neory pulled through, though she was weak for a while after it. She and Sheluth worked hard to over come that weakness and prove themselves.
Before her class could graduate, a group was sent into the recent past with children, to grow for ten turns before returning, with the children being old enough to stand on the Sands and provide a decent number of candidates for Sheluth's first clutch, to make up for the numbers that had been lost from the illness. While they were only gone a turn from Neory's time, they aged 10 turns while they were gone. This was particularly difficult on Neory as her brother and R'net, who described himself as her "pet Bronzer" (though Neory did not like the description, as her affection for him went deeper than she was willing to admit), were both among the leaders of the expedition.
R'net, as the ranking Rider, came back to the current time from time to time to make reports, and Neory and he tried to make a point to see each other whenever he was back. One of those times happened to be Sheluth's first flight, which both Neory and Sheluth chose R'net and his Torenth to win.
Their early relationship was not easy. Because of the effects of timing-it, R'net felt that he had aged even more than the ten turns, and that he was too old and not good enough for the young Queen rider. Neory thought that he was being stupid and that it should be her choice, and that he had no right to make it for her, not when he loved her too. Eventually, they managed to make things work, became weyrmated, and had two beautiful children. While Neory does not have the time to be a mother the way that holders understand mothering, she spent what time she could with her children, making it clear that she loved them very much.
When the plan for the permanent timing it solution was reached, Neory made taking her children with her a condition of going, insisting that with their heritage they would eventually make good candidates themselves. (Neory would be proud of her children either if neither impresses, but it was a good rationalization.) She did not have to insist on the Weyrsecond, as he was the bronze with the most experience at timing it.
She is convinced that her brother was picked because she wanted him, even though she knows full well that his experience was even more important than her personal desires. She doubts that he will ever forgive her for taking him from his weyrmate and children, since she cannot forgive herself. She just hopes that he will remain her confidant and someone she can count on.
She's also glad to have other good friends present, including Amneris whose Labeth is one of Sheluth's clutchmates. While she does not ever make it a demand, she frequently requests that her friend play music at informal gatherings, though never enough to keep her from being able to enjoy time with her own weyrmate.
Dragon:
Name: Sheluth
Age: 14 turns
Color: Gold
Appearance: Antique gold, darker hued. She is small for a queen, will not likely surpass her mother’s size. She is pretty proportionate, her tail is a bit too long, though Sheluth would never see that as a flaw. Many in the know comment that she looks more like her grand-dame (Beynath) than her mother (Adeloth)
Personality: Aggressive and possessive, Sheluth expects to be pampered. She can be very demanding, though she can be very sweet and understanding to Hers.
She has come to understand that hers has a tendency to over work herself, which can lead to hers not feeling well and to neglecting Sheluth (well, not neglecting her, just not giving her half as much attention as Sheluth thinks she deserves!).
She is also possessive of Torenth, thinking of him as her bronze (though all bronzes are hers, but he is more so than others!).
History:
Sheluth vaguely remembers taking her time to dry off and survey the options before sensing the one that was right for her. She remembered that one of her sisters dare take from her options, though the girl she chose was not hers, still she had the right to choose first! She remembered not letting anything stop her and demanding imperiously, Neory, your Sheluth is hungry! She also remembered that the young woman took care of her need immediately.
She also remembers when hers was sick. While Sheluth would not be one to admit being scared, that did scare her, but hers is no longer sick, so it is all good.
Sheluth remembers her first flight, remembers the thrill of being chanced, and remembers picking Torenth, as she has done almost every time since then.
Sheluth also remembers staying between for a very long time to get to where they are now. She does not fully understand why hers sometimes seems to get rather melancholy about their new home. Torenth is here, and the sun is very nice in the south.
