A loud sigh broke the silence of the dark room, followed shortly by the faint sound of sleeping furs being thrown to the side and a creaking bed frame; Nerilan had sat up and swung her legs over the side of the bed. She let them hang there as she sat and rubbed her forehead while staring blankly through the dark. Moments passed. Finally, the young woman stirred once more and got to her feet. She then crossed the room and partially uncovered a glow, squinting as she tried to grow accustomed to the light. Nerilan then walked back to her clothing chest and shrugged on a jacket--the south was warm, but even the nights were cool--and sat back down on the bed to slip into her shoes. Stifling a yawn, she laced them up loosely.
Finishing, Nerilan stood and opened the door to her room, and she passed into the hallway and shuffled towards the weyrbowl. Stepping out into the open air, the blonde peered upwards and smiled at the brilliant expanse of stars that stretched across the night sky. She took a moment to marvel at the beauty and sank to the ground near the entrance to the barracks.
It was unusual for her to be unable to sleep. It was remarkable how awake she felt, considering her chores had been particularly taxing today. Nerilan was baffled as to why she could not sleep, but dismissed it as nothing. She had tried to sleep nonetheless, but that didn't work so.... so here she was. Simply staring at the stars, and the two moons; Belior and Timor. Tearing her eyes from the heavens, Nerilan glanced around the weyrbowl. It was empty... It must be later than I thought the woman mused, stifling another yawn. Pulling her knees up under her chin, the lady looked back up. The night sky made her feel so small, so insignificant. It was amazing.
