R'net had pondered that it was a sad state of affairs when a leader of the Weyr(as small as his part had become), couldn't find the time to see his daughter as she was attacked by wild beasts, mauled like a Hatchling had taken an active dislike in her.
But he'd been busy, taking reports, checking his dragons for stress, overflying the Holds, debating on how many candidates could be taken from the Northern Holds, and so on, and such forth.
So, he hadn't seen in daughter in quite some time. He supposed it was all his fault, being as that he'd only really bonded to R'ko, and saw his other children rarely. He knew, as well, that R'ko spent a good deal more time with them. R'ko would be a much better father than himself, he knew, and thus was the beauty of Weyrlife. R'net didn't have to be a good father, and it wasn't really expected.
But with all the free time he received now that he was just Wingleader(and a Wingleader who delegated everything), he'd decided that he would finally take some time to get to know his daughter, and find out more about the maulings, since all he knew about them came from R'ko.
So he'd sent a message to Netory's family, requesting to see her by the lake at some point in the morning, and then, in the shade of Torenth, he'd promptly gone to sleep, knowing that Torenth would wake him when Netory arrived. Or that she would.
Vacations were nice.

As her foster mother did everything to prepare Netory to see her father, the girl continued to say her father wouldn't care what she looked like. Her dress was not much better than the usual Weyrbrat. She kissed her little brother on the forehead when he reached for her and continued to move around there three roomed home without a thought to her foster mother's pesterings.
She found her shoes under her foster father's favorite chair. Bending down was not as easy as it had been a few weeks prior but her side was mending well according to the Healers. She sat on the chair to put the shoes on and once she was pretty much ready, her mother tried to brush the large matt that was her hair.
Netory's hair ended up in a small pony tail so that it was out of her face. She smiled and then looking up at her mother, gave her a small hug. "I'll be back later!" She said, walking out of the door. Netory, for a nine turn old was becoming quite able to do things for herself but some of the grown ups seemed to think she still needed coddling.
The lake was an easy walk from her place at the Weyr. She would have liked to run but she had to walk according to the healers. With a pale blue shawl pulled over her shoulders, she still felt the chill of the wind through the fabrics. Her cheeks were flushed from the cool air. The trees seemed to agree with the temperature their changing leaves said autumn was here.
Netory made out the body of her father's dragon from far enough away that she knew which direction she should be heading. The girl saw that her father was resting and greeted Torenth first. "Good morning Torenth. Is father awake?"

Wake up, Sluggard. Torenth began as soon as he spotted his Rider's child. The dragon had noticed a growing amount of time needed for his rider to awaken, and wanted to give His fair warning.
So he had. Unfortunately, R'net was still in the process of waking up when Netory finally reached them. So, when Netory asked her question of Torenth, the massive Bronze shook his head, in the process jostling R'net who finally awoke.
"Hmm? Oh! Hello, Netory." The dazed older man smiled at his daughter.
"Come have a seat." He invited, patting the raised area of sand he was sitting in, with Torenth's bulk to offer a backrest. With his other hand, he absentmindedly rubbed his head, pondering his possible need to trim the red and silver hairs again.
"How are you?" He finally asked. "How are you liking Nova, and such?"

Netory was perfectly capable of sitting down but it was going to be a little more difficult than it used to be. Her side was healing well but she could easily tear it open again. Using the Bronze's side, she slid her back down him till her butt reached the ground. Only a little shot of pain ran up her side, she was getting used to that now though. "Hello father."
With a quirky smile, " I've been better. Nova is okay I guess. The other kids are pretty much the same sort." Her face showed her dissappointment there. Her foster parents were not to blame for Netory having a hard time making friends. She shifted her legs to be all the way out in front of her. "The beach is beautiful but I regrettably got injured before I could go swimming in the Ocean. R'ko probably won't take me again." Her voice declared her dissapointment.
"How are you? Are you and mother okay?" Netory understood Weyr politics well for a nine turn old. She wondered sometimes how they could all handle being loved by others and still returning to someone they loved longer. She didn't really see how that could be a good way to live. Maybe that was because she had idealized love, like any little girl would.
