It was a moon after Elfreth's Flight. The whole Weyr seemed to be excited, to be holding their breath, to see if Elfreth would clutch a queen. Even Htattath seemed to be waiting. It wasn't as if having another queen to boss the lower colors around was good. But it is good, Eevee. [/b] Htattath argued, and Evelie could imagine her green flicking her tail on the ledge where she sunned. 'It is not!' Evelie retorted stubbornly; she wasn't going to lose to her own dragon. Htattath, knowing Evelie, seemed to sigh as she said, Fine, another queen is not good for a Weyr.[/b] 'Darn right. Another queen means more eggs, and-' I know, you hate dragons.[/b] It was an argument Evelie always pulled out when talking about queens. Evelie disliked dragons in particular, but loved dragons just the same. Hers was a complicated relationship with dragons. They saved her from certain marriage, but she had never technically loved them in the first place. However, Htattath knew how Evelie felt about the dragons, and so never argued it. One this particular day, Evelie had opted to not wear the typical rider's clothes, but instead a knee-length pale yellow summer dress. She wasn't wearing her normal rider gear, so she wasn't wearing her green knobs--meaning she was a greenrider--on her shoudlers. She looked almost childlike, seemingly floating along. She didn't feel like having--or doing--dragonrider duties today. She didn't want anything that would bog her down. She was not focusing, particularly, and found herself on a crash course with the back of a rather large rider--she knew he was a rider from his build. She ran into him, but bounced off, barely moving him but jostling her. She frowned at him, and, though she knew perfectly well that it was her fault for running into him, she asked, "And why did you just walk out into my way?"[/blockquote]

T'ris was not one of those people who obsessed over the coming clutch. In fact, he had more important things to do with his time. He was out on a run, not really paying attention to much in particular. Nerekoth was slumbering peacefully on his ledge where T'ris had left him. The brown did not need to be awake while T'ris was running, at least that was his reasoning. He was keeping to his usual pace up until...
Flame it all! What in the name of Faranth and her Egg is going on? T'ris stopped and turned around to face the person who had plowed into him. Figures it would be some idiot female and she was blaming him. Today would not be a good day for him to get into it. Laszreen was keeping an extra eye on all involved in that fight and he wasn't going to get in even deeper with the Weyrleaders.
"Excuse me? I do believe you were the one who walked into mine, however, seing as I'm feeling particularly nice today, I'll let you keep your fantasy of innocence." He was not in the mood for moody women. If that made any sense. This was exactly why he preffered the company of men most of the time. Women always expected to be right and flame you if you thought differently. "Can I give you a hand?" He left his hand open if she wanted help getting up off the ground.
Why was he being nice? T'ris really couldn't help it. Even if he were angry two seconds before, he was a good person deep down. Of course his run was completely ruined but the blonde rider might be nice to have around as a new acquaintance, maybe. He was not too sure about that due to her attitude. The blue eyed man evaluated her shortly. Stubborn, probably upset about something or she would have been paying more attention. Oh he hoped she had not just gotten out of some relationship, then he'd have to hear how some man misused her. As if he didn't have enough to think about.

Evelie had found herself on the ground, sprawled in such a way where her dress, thankfully, fell over her knees and not higher up. But when she had, stubbornly, of course, yelled at him, he stubbornly replied back that she had run into him. She frowned at him, but said nothing. She would keep her mouth shut. The guy she had run into was, of course, large, but rider large, not fat large. It was no surprise that she had bounced off him and had fallen to the ground. Evelie wondered how, in all of the Weyrs of Pern, she had run into him. ’Oh yeah, I was thinking about that stupid clutch.’
Evelie accepted the rider’s hand, and stood up with little help. “Thanks,” she replied curtly, assessing him. He was cute, in a way. But that wasn’t saying much, seeing as Evelie thought a lot of people, mostly men, were cute. There were a few women she thought cute, but she liked to think that she saw them as cute through her dragons’ eye: those few women rode blues.
Then, even though he had helped her up, she scowled. “All of this nonsense is killing me!” She cried as she watched two Lower Caverns Women walking past, whispering together about the upcoming clutching. “Everyone seems to be focused on the clutch, not on their duties. Why don’t they just forget about it?” She shot a glare at those two women, who were beyond earshot now. Careful, little rider. That man who stands there, that man who eyes you, he could be opposed. [/b] Htattath said, her gentle voice coming over the mind-link that Evelie shared with her dragon. But Evelie still glowered. “Do you care for hatchings?” She asked suddenly, turning on the man, her blue eyes smoldering. If he did, then he did. She didn’t care. She just had to know. He was a brownrider, so he had to have stood at a hatching once or twice, but it didn’t mean that he liked to stand at that hatching. And it didn’t mean that he liked to hear people obsess over hatchings like anyone could stand. Only the best people could stand at hatchings. [/blockquote]

"You are quite welcome." He said with a smile. Finally some manners! He watched the women pass but made no remarks nor was he really looking at them, not in the way men tended to at the Weyr. Not that they weren't attractive, he just wasn't in the mood to be chasing women. "Oh, well they are all expecting great things from the little Igen Gold." He grimaced. That woman was evil. If he never had to see Laszreen again, he'd be perfectly happy.
"I'm not really interested in discussing anything that has to do with Elfreth, especially where it concerns her rider." He spoke openly and knew he wasn't the only one from Telgar who felt that way. Looking at the blonde in front of him he thought she must not like Goldriders much if she didn't like hatchings. "Hatchings in general don't bother me though. I'm just not one to obsess over it. Honestly I care more for the feasting afterwards."
Seeing as he had no idea who he was talking to, he wondered if he could wake Nerekoth. The brown was probably going to be stubborn and not wake up. Was it even worth waking him? He'd be in a fowl mood. Ugh, yeah better not. "I don't believe we've met formally. I'm T'ris, rider of brown Nerekoth of Procyron Wing, formerly of Telgar Weyr's Zahra Wing."

Evelie realized that it wasn’t so bad not being stubborn all the time. If men were more like T’ris (as Htattath informed her), then she might not need to be that stubborn. And she was delighted to know another person that did not like, at least, hatchings. She doubted she’d find a rider that had as complex a relationship as dragons had with her. She smiled and made a motion as if to zip up her mouth, “I promise I shall not speak of that gold near you.”
Because, really, she wanted to get on the guy’s good side. What a slump she would be if she was on everyone’s bad side! So, because not talking about dragons was something she could definitely do, she dropped the subject. Then she smiled, “Oh, the feasts are the most superb. Those feasts are really the only reason why I like hatchings.” It was totally true. That, and checking in after the hatchings to see if any people were mauled. Evelie didn’t especially like maulings, but young dragonets were the most susceptible to do that.
Then she tilted her head slightly to the side, giving her stubborn facial expression a sort of child-like charm. She was, however, no child. She was a greenrider, and anyone who wanted to disprove her of that right better get in line to be hurt. Majorly. She once again smiled, “Nice to meet you, T’ris, rider of brown Nerekoth.” After a small moment’s pause, she added, “I bet your dragon’s asleep, or you would have known me by now. I’m Evelie, rider of green Htattath, and from the same wing. Huh, wonder why I’ve never met you.”
Then, venturing further, she wondered aloud, “Why were you there in the first place? Got some rider business to go through? Somethin’ concerning the wing?”

The name should have rung a bell but seeing as T'ris was learning a lot of new names here at Nova, it was to be expected that he would forget a few. "Well met, Evelie. I can be incredibly one minded at drills so that may be why I do not remember seeing you." Plus there were more greens than browns by a lot. He would never say as much to a greenrider they were much too testy to mention things like that in front of.
"Why was I where?" T'ris was slightly confused by her question. Why was he here in the Weyrhall? It was part of his workout. That should be obvious. If she was referring to meeting with Laszreen well that was quite easily explained. He had come to Nova, not because of the same reasons most people had been brought. He was not reccommended nor did he have friends in high places. He had already discovered Timing it by himself. Therefore they decided he'd be perfect. That was of course after he had been warned never to time it again.
"I don't concern myself too much with Wing bussiness, there are more enjoyable things to be doing." He stretched his arms over his head for a moment and then let them back down. His workout was toally not happening now. Maybe later this evening. Smiling back at the pretty blonde, "I wonder if you'd like to get out of the weyr then? All this talking of the clutch is only going to get worse. I myself have been meaning to go to the Beach at some point."

Evelie smiled back at him to be polite. He was strange, but so was she, and every other single person on the planet. But, for the life of her, she couldn’t pinpoint why he was strange.
Then Evelie laughed and waved away the question. “I always ask why people are at the place they are at.” She shrugged, “You don’t need to answer that, riders come here all the time.” She blushed, could feel her cheeks reddening. ‘Stupid!’ She thought.
Then, when he said wing business was boring, she frowned. “Then you haven’t really participated. I strive to make fun games for our training, whether the Wingleader likes them or not.” She smiled, a twinkle in her eye. “I’m pretty sure you’ll like it in the long run, if you participate.” Then he mentioned getting out of the Weyr. She felt her smile widen, “I dunno, Weyr work is very entertaining.” Obvious sarcasm. “But the beach sounds absolutely delightful. Are you sure you should waken your dragon, though?”

"Oh, I see. Well it is part of my usual route. I run to stay fit, like most riders. Don't see the point of only running outside when there is so much Weyr to through before one even gets out there." T'ris explained. He noted that she was uncomfortable in her own skin because she was a bit different. There were plenty of stranger people than her at the Weyr and none of them really bothered him.
Raising an eyebrow at that he remarked, "Ahh but theres the difference between a female greenrider and a male brownrider. You may cause a little trouble and the Wingleader will say its just a silly greenrider thing, if I mess around, its chores and extra work. I'm supposed to set an example you know. Also I more than make up for it outside of wing practice."
It wasn't like he had never been in trouble during wing practice for doing crazy things. He and Nerekoth had pulled off their fair share of stunts before ending up in trouble. At Nova he was already in enough real trouble that he had no plans to get further in. Laszreen had it out for him as did A'ron.
"Nerekoth will be waking soon anyway. Besides he won't mind a little trip out to the beach." In the back of his mind he wondered if Ch'li would like the beach. Why a thought like that even crossed his mind he wasn't sure but he wished Nerekoth were up to remind him to think in the present.

At T’ris’s explanation of the difference between a brownrider and a greenrider, Evelie snorted. “I’d rather get in trouble than be thought of as a silly female greenrider.” A spark of her stubbornness showed through. She folded her arms, “It really is no fun when you know you can’t really get into trouble.”
She had a feeling he wasn’t telling her things, and she realized something bad had happened, if not recently. She raised an eyebrow at him, and smiled, “get in trouble recently, have you? It seems like it. Maybe you should tell me. Or not, I don’t care.”
Then her smile widened, “Htattath would love to have a playmate. She’s been getting fat just laying there on that ledge all day.” Evelie said, and laughed. Htattath never just layed anywhere all day.
On her ledge, Htattath looked up, Oh, Eevee, will this green go to the beach? In the green’s mind, she heard, ‘Yes, little dragon, we are going swimming today.’ Htattath stood on the ledge and fanned her wings, which were large for her body, but diminutive compared to a Brown’s, a blue’s, or even a normal sized green’s. This green is coming! We shall, together, swim! [/b] Back with T’ris, Evelie sighed, “Htattath is coming. No backing down now.” [/blockquote]
