I *think* I've seen somewhere that this takes place during... 9th pass? I'm not sure. I have also seen the turn characters were born in on their profiles... which brings me to the question:

What turn is our story set in? I'm sure if one was dying to find out, they could use the dates on the profiles, do some simple math, and figure it out themselves, but it would be useful to make the current turn a part of the history. Also, in what turn did thread begin to fall again? Important dates like these need to be known, as it can affect a character's history.

Yes, turns can be confusing on here!

The story starts in the 5th Pass, actually, (official dates of the turns conflict in different sources) with thread searing Pern, and due to the plagues, the population is considerably decreased from what it should be. Telgar, just getting into the Pass, sends holders back to the middle of the 4th Interval, which incidentally is a long one. Twelve turns into it the dragonriders and weyrfolk are sent back. Which is where the story is at present. So, if we start at 1068 (12 turns into the 5th Pass) we subtract 200 years from that which brings us to turn 868.

If your character is one of those brought back in time (which most of them were) you can just assume they were born in the interval if it's easier to keep track of. We expect that candidates will be taken sparsely from all over, and all are taken in secrecy to protect Nova from those who would exploit it. So basically your character will have a good 12 turns of threadfall to account in their history. Unless they were a child of a holder at Star Hold, then they might even be too young to remember thread because they would have left right at the very beginning.

PS the dragonriders will be going forward into to time to aid in threadfighting, but in areas where Telgar and Igen Weyrs can not stretch to fight. Sorry if I'm so long winded
