His cheekbones protrude slightly, adding to his hawkish look. His jawline is sharply defined, and is mostly clean shaven, though sometimes it is decorated by a bit of a rough beard. He keeps short side burns and unkept thick reddish brown hair. His eyebrows are thick and dark, not quite matching his hair color. They frame his eyes, cruel, sharp eyes of bluish green hue. They are often judging, distant, even cold.

Personality:
Elitist - Being from Igen Weyr, who enforced their hierarchy, R'phin grew up thinking bronzeriders were the best. Now that he is one, he believes he is the best. Back home he socialized with bronzeriders and the occasional goldrider. Once Impressing he was led to believe that other riders were beneath him, and he still believes it- to a point. This makes him come off a bit arrogant, and it's hard for people to get past this first impression of him.
Unhappy- Even though he is more fortunate that most young men of his age (or men in general) he is not quite happy with his lot in life. This has to do with his social connections. It is unfortunate that he was so influenced by rank at such a young age. He lost friends, never knew others, and he believed that was how it was supposed to be. However, at Nova he's learning to be more social with other ranks. He's still not happy, and is not sure what could ever make him feel complete. R'phin resents being the "babysitter" of the candidates. The happiest he ever seems to get is when he's been drinking. Then he lets his reservations go and flirts and laughs, and is a totally different guy.
Conservative - He likes to do things the tried and true way, and is leary of new wing manuvers and change. He's also very conservative about PDA. He doesn't mind flirting and the occasional holding of hands, but he's not fond of kissing girls in public. Unless of course he's been drinking, then he's all over them... He doesn't like every one and their brother to know who he's been sleeping with. His seduction is always behind closed doors where he's more comfortable being a romantic. He doesn't want the other bronzers know he can be poetic or sensitive.
Passionate - R'phin is no dummy, and when he feels strongly about something, he researches things. He also argues about things with great enthusiasm, and often finds himself engulfed in dramatic monologs. Perhaps this is why serious relationships are hard for him in the Weyr-he has no problem with flings and one night stands, mind you- because it's hard for him to devote all of his being to one person who's body and mind is often dictated to their dragon's cycles. R'phin hates loosing, and he hates being vulnerable.
Possessive - The other end of his passionate issues. When he finally realizes that something is his, it's his. R'phin hates sharing. It's better for him to not think of himself as in a relationship because he does get possessive. Often times women in the Weyr do not like this trait in a man since they are often more liberally minded than the rest of Pern.
History: He was born to a common drudge and a bronzerider. His father had lost a goldflight, his mother was just in the right place at the right time. Perhaps never had Daphi had such a passionate lover than in the arms of R'minus, but never again did she see him after that flight. There was no substance, no love, no anything from that relationship- just one lustful night that neither of them controlled. Nadreth's rider never contacted Daphi again, except once to see the child she had proclaimed as his. The extent of R'phin's half siblings by his father is unknown to the young man, and he doesn't care. R'minus is nothing to R'phin but a genetic donor.
Growing up, he was placed in a creche since not long after his mother was weyrmated to a brownrider and thus did not keep her children. He didn't hear from his father, only he knew that once Nadreth caught the junior queen of the time. Her mother's weyrmate was more of a stable father figure to the boy, occasionally taking Raphinus out on flying excursions. His "stepfather" distrusted bronzeriders, and often did not talk well of them. For a time, Raphinus didn't want to Impress to a bronze.
Things changed and Raphinus grew up. He had less time for his mother and step-father, even less time with his siblings. Most of his time was spent with a rowdy group of ambitious boys who welcomed him on account of his father. This irked him at first, since he didn't owe his sire anything, but being welcomed to an elite social group let him forgive his father a little. He stood for his first hatching at 15, and surprisingly enough, Impressed to the bronze that hatched. He assumed that this meant any affections from his father-figure was null and void, and painfully broke their relationship. He acted detatched from the brownrider, and his rejection of his former 'dad' pained his mother. Since he could not stand to see his mother heartbroken, he avoided her, too.
After weyrling training, some of his buddies wanted to celebrate the ending of his two turn celibacy with some girls. The now 17 turn old rider found that his pleasing looks had a positive effect on girls, as did his new rank. It was then he decided to use this for his own advantage. Girls were more willing to do things for him, and not just regular favors, like special care of his laundry, but also things more in an intimate fashion. There was always a girl on his arm, though he didn't always sleep with them. To him, there were different grades of girls, those worthy of flirting, those worthy of kissing, and those worthy of tupping. The categories got narrower and narrower, and he has never found a girl worthy of weyrmating.
He was assigned to a wing under his mother's brother Wingleader E'mion, who helped him learn things he could not have possibly learned in lessons, like how to interact with the lower ranks, and who should be riding and who should not. He found E'mion quickly becoming his idol, and R'phin fashioned himself like his uncle- dominate, stubborn, haughty, and a quick judge. Just like his uncle, he started to show a prejudice against goldriders. What right had they to be equal or greater rank than a Weyrleader? A man? A Weyrleader worked hard for his postion, he ran drills, he fought thread! Of course some queenriders rode with flamethrowers, but they were too 'precious' to fight high where the danger was. This thought of course, perhaps doomed his relationship with the goldriders at Igen.
When the time came for Helanith to rise, Kesentith rose after her. The bronze was quick, pretty, and silver tongued. The young gold never really knew what was coming. It was a decent flight, neither short nor epically long, but as soon as the bronzes sensed the queen tiring, they closed in on her. Right before a large bronze could descend upon Helanith, Kesentith slipped by and took her for himself. The gold was pleased with the match, and for a little while, so was the rider. The young woman was turned against him because of the fact that R'phin refused to be dominated by her, nor did he swoon over her or fight for her because of her rank. Kesentith never won Helanith again.
Then four turns later the pair was sent to Nova in the south. R'phin had shown some leadership and was recomended by his uncle, Weyrleader E'mion. R'phin dreamed of being assigned Wingsecond, however, he was told he was to be Candidate Master, which the bearer of this bad news added was 'a noble position.' Noble indeed! He was to be a glorified babysitter! R'phin would be expected to teach either idiots from the holds, or arrogant little 'oopses' like himself. He thought one of him was enough.

Dragon Info:
Name: Kesentith
Age: 10
Color: bronze
Appearance: Kesentith is small on the bronze scale, yet he is larger than any brown in the ranks. Kesenth is a flashy, greenish bronze color, lighter, and would never be confused with a metallic brown dragon. There are lighter bursts of greeny bronze where the wing membraine is attatched to the body and darker on shoulder part of the wing and down his back.

Personality: Much more rank neutral than his riding counter part, and much friendlier too. He's willing to bespeak any dragon to approach him, and he's much more accepting of those around his rider. Perhaps it is Kesentith who supplies all of the pair's patience.
Kesentith's smaller girth perhaps makes him quicker than many other bronzes. He has certainly used this to his advantage before. Kesentith loves to be the center of attention, and he loves this attention from greens and golds best.
