Sister-in-Law – Johas – 17 – Yazche’s Wife – With Child
Appearance:
Standing a full 6 feet tall already, Chedest holds the promise of standing well over his father and other brothers – except Risran who tops off at 6’4”. Even so, Chedest has the chance to as he still has a few years of growing in him, though most of that will more than likely be used to finish filling out. Raised as a farmer’s son with no mother figure to spoil him, Chedest was always found in the field, or playing some rough game or another with his brothers. As such, he looks well formed despite his age. While in the field, Chedest ignores the warnings of the older men about protecting himself from the sun. The farmboy had never burned his skin like the other men and as a result doesn’t bother worrying about it and has a very even and dark tan. His chest is hairless and he does not mind it despite his older brother Yazche picking on him for lacking such a ‘manly’ trait. Yazche himself only has a small tuft, but it seems enough to grant boasting rights. While his stomach is defined enough to know that it is solid, you can’t really count the ‘six’ pack from just sight – a feel is always in order.
Brunette hair tops Chedest’s head, long enough to run fingers through and look a mess after a day’s work, but certainly not long enough to get in the way. As soon as it gets even close to the possibility, Chedest cuts it short again. He has no patience for keeping long hair. Even so, the southern sun has played its magic and while it is a dark brown at the roots, it lightens to an almost blonde at the tips.
While most of Chedest is defined enough to give the girls a reason for a second look, his jaw is found lacking. It is undefined and he dislikes how it softens his look. The sharding thing also has a tendency to pop – at times painfully. He has taken a few nasty hits to it growing up, but they have only made the tendency marginally worse than it was. Even so, he tends to take hits to the face rather personally because of it.
Another unique trait of Chedest is his hands. If they are a hint toward his height he will have many inches ahead of him to grow as they seem too large even for his size. While others have noticed a bit surprised, Chedest doesn’t think on it. Often dirt stained and covered in calluses, they get the job done. Rough enough to help his brother pull down an upset heardbeast, yet gentle enough to help when Nollran falls and scrapes her knee – the size only hinders him when the task involves the finest detail.
When it comes to scars, Chedest only boasts one at his age. A fairly clean cut, now white with age and scar tissue runs across his upper right thigh. Easily covered few know he even has the knife wound. It has healed nicely and for a while they were surprised it even bothered leaving a scar.
Face claim – Justin Bruening
Personality:
Chedest does not think twice about work thanks to the way his father raised him. Once given a chore, it is done at that moment unless something else absolutely has to come first. Even so, he does not procrastinate. Being a farmer in the field and beast holding, Chedest has yet to find a chore or job that bothers him. Chedest and his families work ethic has earned them a reputation around Star Hold. Because of that, they are often the first ones people think to seek if extra help is needed with some project or another. If strength is needed, it is often the two tallest brothers who are sought out. After all, they are both easiest to find in a crowd and Risran is rarely found far from Chedest.
Partially due to his work ethic, Chedest is often seen as a quiet young man when it comes to the social setting. While he could argue that it’s an unfair judgement seeing as he is more often working long hours than putting aside a task to socialize. Even so, Chedest does not bother arguing the quiet label that has been put on him. It suits him and to be honest he is not so sure he’d be all that talkative in a crowd anyways. He has an easy going enough manner and is content to sit back and watch events unfold.
Do not make the mistake that Chedest will simply let everything unfold before him though. He is not afraid to speak his mind when he decides the occasion calls for it. In fact, there are a few times he has struck those around him with surprise as his ‘mind’ tends to be very blunt and to the point. What many do not realize is that he is actually rather judgmental. He makes his silent judgments about people and once made they are usually pretty hard to sway.
Chedest can hold a grudge with the ferocity of a Gold in heat. Once you are put on his nuts list there is no coming off of it. If his silent judgments are hard to sway, his grudge is as unmovable as the cliffs Star hold was build into. Once the grudge has been made, you see the coldest side of Chedest. He could care less if you lived or died as long as you got the fall out of his life.
While Chedest is quick to judge, that does not mean he hesitates to help. After everything he has been through with Risran, Chedest is quite the opposite. If anyone is being picked on, harmed or hurt in any way he is very quick to help; well as long as you’re not on his nuts list… He will worry about rules and consequences after he has broken the nose of the wherry-headed dip who decided he was better than another. Once authority does come, he doesn’t bother trying to blame everything on the other guy, instead he stands there quietly and lets the authority decide what happened for themselves. Either way, he knows he had done right in his own mind, his work ethic does not allow punishment bother him.
When it comes to women, Chedest is found lacking much of an opinion at all. He had grown up with four other males with no mother figure as his father demanded to be allowed to raise his own children. Thanks to that along with his work in the field and beast holding, Chedest has surprisingly had limited exposure to them until his brothers married. Because of such, he does not hold them above or below him… though he wouldn’t exactly call them equal either. They are simply there and they do what needs to be done just as he does.
Even when his brothers jokingly ask him when he’ll find his sweetheart, Chedest find himself not that concerned with the idea. He is content with his lot in life thus far and he doesn’t see the point of changing it just yet. He is defiantly not homosexual, he just simply hasn’t found his attention captured by a woman yet.
Growing up in Star Hold, Chedest has always understood that everything the hold does is in preparation for when the dragonriders come. When he was younger he dreamed of the dragons that had brought all of them there and always wished to become a dragon rider. Thirteen turns tends to force the mind the mature, however, and now Chedest is not so sure he’d take an offer to stand on the sands if he was presented with it. Sure, he does not have a lot that he would be leaving behind, but he is content with what he has.
History:
Born the fourth son of a Keroon farmer, Chedest was a healthy baby boy… Perhaps too healthy as his birth left his mother weak. The baby boy ended up never being able to feel his mother’s touch as he was handed over to his father and they were both promptly pushed from the room while the midwife turned her attentions to Smowia. That night never seemed to end, but Chedest’s father, Stryck, could not be more proud of his sons as they instantly took to the boy as a gift and did not reject them in the loss of their mother. He became an instant favorite in the male family. Stryck never remarried and does not intend to.
As a child, Chedest looked like every other young boy who came to Star Hold in the beginning. Just enough meat on his bones to keep him going constantly, he was always with a dirt smudged face and a quick smile. He certainly lived his boyhood years to the fullest, always finding new ways to get dirty or to contest himself against his always loving brothers. Fist fights were common, though when Chedest was involved they usually ended in a fit of giggles with both boys rolling in the dirt. Rarely was such a fight a serious matter and most evidence of such bustles were easily washed away at the end of the day.
Growing up, Chedest never needed scolding, which was a good thing as Stryck never had the heart to scold his four boys. If Chedest ever did something wrong or only completed half a chore his father would simply give him a disappointed look and go to fix whatever was not done or done wrong. The feeling of guilt was enough to have the growing boy racing after his father to apologize and help amend things. It never mattered what time it was, everything would be done before his father went to bed and it was a trait naturally imbedded into Chedest and his brothers.
While Chedest never noticed the difference when he was young, it was a shock to Stryck when his youngest son came up and asked if his older brother Risran would grow up to be like everyone else. Speechless, it took Laswor to take Chedest aside and explain that Risran would never be exactly like them, but that did not make Risran any less their brother and any less a man. After that day, it took Chedest a few weeks to come to terms with the realization that his brother was different, but once he had Chedest made the family’s hearts ache with pride as he took on the natural role of protector of his older, dimmer brother.
It was that role that had lead Chedest into the few real fights he had been in; twice with boys older than him and once with one younger than him. Surprisingly, it was the fight against the younger boy that left Chedest worse for wear. The younger boy had a reputation for fighting dirty, but at the time Chedest didn’t care – the boy had no right to be tormenting Risran the way he was. The brawl ended shortly after the boy pulled a knife on Chedest. Thankfully Risran had found some form of courage after the blood started to show and knocked the younger boy out cleanly.
The next few weeks Risran never stopped apologizing for letting Chedest get hurt and for hurting the other boy. It was clear it had seriously affected Risran to stand up for himself even more than the little torment sessions ever had. Chedest never understood why, but he promised himself that the next time he stood up for Risran, he would make sure his brother was not in the vicinity so that the weight of the fight would not be left on Risran’s fragile mind.
With the coming of Chedest’s eighteenth birthday, he finds himself helping his oldest brother Laswor more and more with the herdbeasts and runners that Star Hold was carefully breeding. Chedest seems to have a knack for handling the beasts and where his voice does not command the beast’s obedience, his strong hands make up for by simply holding the beast in check. Several times now, Chedest has found the Journeyman Beastcrafters watching him with curiosity as he helps out with various activities. The fact that they have not approached him for doing something wrong encourages Chedest. The more he works with the animals the more he considers following his oldest brother’s footsteps.
Dragon Info
Name: Erinetath
Color: Bronze
Appearance:
Erinetath is an average sized Bronze with a well proportioned body. His tail might be a little long but who would notice? His coloring is mottled darker and lighter bronze throughout his body. The darker Bronze areas have slightly reddish tint to them but there can be no mistaking him for anything but what he is.
Personality:
Stubborn and a bit pushy, Erinetath is not as happy as his rider to watch things and make judgements silently. He is very outspoken and blunt. If he wanted to make someone's life difficult he would. He likes to be in the company of other dragons but his rider unfortunately gets to hear all his little smart mouthed side comments. He does think himself one of the best dragons on Pern, which is expected of a Bronze.
Background:
The Cavern grew hushed when a larger dragonet burst from his own shell. The Bronze was obviously unafraid of this new place. He knew almost immediately whom he wanted but he had to catch the youth’s attention somehow. Of course he would be the one holding hands with a girl. The Bronze almost chortled then and there. How funny these humans were! C’dest, stop messing around with the girls! Can’t you see I’m STARVING! The Bronze waited for recognition. And still he stands there gaping up at the massive Bronze…ugh. I thought you were intelligent. He paused. What part of Erinetath is hungry do you not grasp? The Bronze was slightly amused though he was actually very hungry. He wanted his to move as quickly as possible.
Firelizard Info
Name: Tain
Age: 11 Turns
Color: Bronze
Apperance:
Tain has a dark, almost dirty-like bronze hide. There is no question, however, that the firelizard is a bronze and not a brown. He spends hours preening himself to no avail as the hide still holds its dingy appearance. Even so, he is a good size for a bronze firelizard and once you get past the color of his hide you can defiantly tell there is lean muscle beneath. Long wings and a longer tail, Tain has no problem chasing the mice in the field to pass the time.
Personality:
Like many of the bronze firelizards around Star Hold, Tain is not exactly what you would call attentive to his chosen. At first, he would never be found out of Chedest’s sight, Tain is not a young firelizard and finds himself just as happy lazing about in the sun or chasing a nearby green. Even so, Tain is there instantly should Chedest find need of the bronze. Despite going their different ways during the day, the bronze is always back on the shoulder of his chosen at meal times and helps himself into Chedest’s bed at night. Even so, Tain is a firelizard at heart and still enjoys playing his games.
History:
Like many of the boys his turn, Chedest was often pushed out toward the beach while Star Hold was still undergoing construction. Dragging Risran with him as they chased after other children of the hold across the sand, they had every intention of spending the day getting dirty. Well the last thing they expected was to stumble upon a nest of eggs not far down the beach. The children were not slow and knew they had to tell the adults or they would be in big trouble. Sending two of the faster boys back to get an adult, the rest stood guard of the nest so nobody would be able to take away the praise they knew they would get.
They had not expected the eggs to hatch, however, and the next thing they knew they were being bombarded by a dozen flits and a very angry little gold. All quickly taking cover under a nearby bush, it was Risran who pointed out that they were bringing food to the little hatching eggs. Pockets were quickly emptied and it was voted that Chedest would be the first to try to make amends with the angry gold by offering food to her children.
Several minutes of careful crawling brought Chedest up to a little bronze firelizard who did not hesitate to begin eating the food offered. Waving enthusiastically to the other boys, he caught the attention of the gold firelizard again and without thinking scooped up the little bronze before ducking back into the bushes. Seeing what had happened, the other boys followed suit, each managing to get a little green or blue or brown before being chased off by the gold. Eventually it was only Risran and who had been too afraid to catch himself a baby firelizard, but he was content to watch Chedest’s little bronze sleep.
While the children all made their way back to the Hold bearing their prizes proudly, the adults could not help but feel a little put out that they had missed out on such an opportunity.
Today, Chedest makes good use of Tain, finding it the easiest way to check up on Risran and to communicate with his father three fields over. He has grown to have an attachment to Tain and finds himself rather fond of the little bronze.
