((This is going on during Elfreth's flight))
When Ionuth started to notice Elfreth was going into heat, J'var began to be worried. He could not fly after the queen, not with out endangering his position as Weyrleader. J'var was sure Ionuth could catch Elfreth given the chance, had he not proven that time and time again? But he could not, and would not monopolize the queens. At Igen, Weyrleader A'stin had both Saharth and Lyranth, but this was not Igen, and he was not A'stin. Besides, there was a little piece of him that feared Laszreen would not allow Elfreth to be caught by Ionuth simply because he had caught Sheluth. Actually, he knew she'd never let Io win Elfreth because that wouldn't be the best for the Weyr, and Laszreen always tried to do what was best for the Weyr. He had to give her that. Thus, Ionuth had no chance at winning and J'var really didn't want to be around for that.
Of course, J'var was far too proud to ever mention the fact that there was a chance he could not win a flight if he had not been Weyrleader. He'd rather hide behind the fact that he could not even compete because his dragon was mated to Sheluth. It was a far more noble excuse. So in that, he asked Neory to accompany him to Star Hold while the second queen flew, seeing as Sheluth would have to vacate the Weyr anyway.
This might be a good excuse to meet with the Star Leaders about conditions, harvests and tithes, crafters, and overall improve Star Hold's relationship with the Weyr. That was a valid reason to miss the flight, was it not?
The grand Ionuth looked well that day, and it was a great unfortunate thing that he could not fly after his long time mate. The bronze did not seem to be bothered by it as J'var told him there was a possibility Sheluth would accompany him on their voyage to Star Hold. The bronze pair landed in the courtyard, and Ionuth, never loosing the chance to show off, majestically held himself to glean in the sun.
J'var dismounted and smirked at the beast, and then looked to hold doors were he was sure the Hold Leaders would come from. They must have been alerted to his presence, for who could miss such a glamorous beast as Ionuth? That wasn't even a haughty remark, seeing as the dragon took every advantage to show his size and hide.
