So, we need to get things rolling, and it's been pointed out that it's hard to get a plot going-if you can think of one at all. So, I'm brainstorming some uber easy plots to get people moving!
Love Stories
Every one LOVES a good love story. For example, cue Laszreen and J'var. It's more of 'I hate you.' 'I can't live with out you.' 'You are such an insensitive jerk.' but it's cute, trust me. Now, of course I don't ask that you bombard Kayla with proposals for her queenrider, that's a much different story, but what about your adorable little greenrider getting hooked up with that hunky brownrider down the hall? Or your candidate meeting a rider while they are doing something they shouldn't be. (like maybe sneaking on to the sands or creeping around the riders weyrs, or being out after curfew?) These are the kinds of plots that seem to be most common, and certainly are very fun!
Tragic Stories *
If you can write emotions well, here is the plotline for you! You can make something really tragic, like a death or disfigurement. Maybe you can combine this and Love Stories to make a double whammy. I once had a character named L'sander, who lost his first love in a tragic mauling accident when a gold was hatched He was very tragic for a long time. Thinking about killing off one of your characters? Do a PLOT! Don't just leave a message that you want to get rid of them. Weyrlings can be killed in lessons, or maybe adult riders get into an argument (maybe over a girl?) things elevate, and one is killed?! Woah! There is a reason people still recite Romeo and Juliet!!!
Heroic Stories *
Every Weyr needs a hero, and there are plenty of ways to do it. Maybe there was a kitchen fire, and your character braved the heat to save a trapped other character. Woah, what if that leads to a love story? ANOTHER double Whammy!! Maybe there was a flight lesson and something goes terribly wrong, and your rider(s) save the falling pair? Every one likes to celebrate a hero, so after the said heroic act, maybe there would be a small celebration? Sweet!
Evil Stories *
Not every can be the hero. What would good stories be with out their villians? Take "Much Ado About Nothing" (another Shakespear refrence) where would the plot be if the evil brother didn't set up the protagonist Claudio? Nothing. Claudio would marry Hero and they would live in Italy happily ever after. And there is nothing wrong with that. But when Evil Don whatever (John is it?) makes up this story about Hero to complicate matters. It makes a story nailbiting. What about a poisoner character? A devious person in the Weyr eager to climb the social ladder by conveniently knocking off those in their way? (and by knock off I mean kill, banish, or otherwise incapitate.) You could even spread rumors to ruin competition. How much fun does that sound?!
Killing your own characters off is perfectly fine, but please, find some one else to plot with. To make things easier, perhaps we could plot under this thread? I want every one to get a chance to be involved! Remember, no killing other characters with out permission from the Role player. Try to be realistic as possible, no "leaping across ten yards to reach her..." perfectionist thing. A heroic tale is going to require some planning and is going to be difficult for the hero character. You are not going to magically do a great feat in two posts.
