Netory helped get up onto Deshenoreth before leaving and within moments was strapped in correctly. Her excitement was eating her up. First she got a dragonride then she was going to the beach with her favorite brother! Could life get better?! Wait till her mommy and daddy heard about this. She could tell the other Brats but they wouldn't be able to comprehend how big this event was to her.
Between was cold. Someone had taught her the ballad which she said to herself in a whispered tone. "Black, Blacker, Blackest, and cold beyond frozen things..." They were at the Beach before she even got to the word cold. However she had to complete the sentance for it to make sense to her. She waited patiently as Desh flew over the Beach.
"Where should we swim?" Netory asked in a high pitched, excited voice. "Look how beautiful it is here! No wonder we left cold, dingy Telgar..." The brat knew all too well the real reason they were here but she wasn't about to talk serious talk when out with her brother to have fun.

R'ko nodded in agreement, while checking with Desh about possible landing sights. The Brown wasn't the largest of his kind, but he was no Green to land on a dot in the sand. Finally, they both decided on a beach that hardly sloped at all into the ocean, signifying that the current wasn't very strong. And the sand looked fine, meaning it would be comfortable for Desh to be scrubbed.
"Here we go!" R'ko called over the noise of flying, as Desh started to dive into place. His landing wasn't the smoothest in dragon history, but it wasn't a bad landing considering this beach was a strange place. Then R'ko jumped off Desh, and offered a hand to Netory.
"Come on down. If we can just get Desh's harness back off, we can start exploring!"

The young girl laughed as the brown began to dive toward the quickly approaching sand. Netory had never feared flying, she trusted dragons as much as any rider though she was but a child. She watched her half brother dismount and waited for him to help her. While she had been around dragons her entire life, she was not yet tall enough to get down from a dragon by herself.
"Okay!" She took the offered hand and slid down the side of the brown. Netory helped where she could to get the harness off of the brown dragon. Her brother was better at it but she attributed that to his age and height and the fact that Deshenoreth was his dragon. When they finished she said, " Now can we explore, R'ko?!"

After laying out his harness, and tucking it around several rocks, and under several rocks, and stashing his bag along side the harness, R'ko, with a bounce in his step, returned to Netory's side. Surveying the area closely- the Holders warned of some sort of creature that had big sharp claws, and the need to be careful. Desh, with a clear view of everything from the spot on the sand he'd picked, would be fine. And the brown was already close to sleep- with a single eye keeping a look out.
"Well, let's go then!" R'ko proclaimed, excited as Netory. He hadn't been exploring a beach in ages, maybe not since Netory's younger brother had been born.
"What direction did you pick?"

Netory was not about to slow down now. She looked down the beach in both directions and decided to head to the left. "This way!" She tugged at R'ko's hand and then sprinted off ahead of him, laughing as she went. The little girl had no idea what the dangers of Southern were and no one would have taken the time to inform her.
She was a little farther ahead of her half brother than maybe she should have been but Netory knew he could catch up to her in no time. Netory saw something near the treeline and assumed it would be a firelizard. "I think I found something!" She ran towards the trees with a child's enthusiasm.
The large feline heard rather than saw the young girl coming, at first lowering itself to the ground and then just as Netory came close the feline pounced, with a hissing growl coming from it. The feline managed to slash at Netory with its claws and knock her over.
As for Netory, she was at first in shock and a moment later screamed with pain. It hurt, like fire across her chest. She hadn't ever seen anything like that before. The feline was coming at her again, and this time, Netory kicked at the predator which trying to scoot herself away from it.

R'ko followed behind Netory with a laugh, not bothering to keep too close to her. Beaches, his experience taught him, were safe places, so long as you didn't swim out too far. So, it was with a teasing breath that he opened his mouth to call Netory back, to slow down a bit. Which turned into a horrified yelp, as a large shadow(or thus it appeared) jumped out and attacked his sister. With an angry yell, he charged the beast who was coming back for a second attack despite Netory kicking her legs at the monster.
His hands reached for a belt knife that was not their, but R'ko, a man who picked the hardest points during Threadfall wasn't about to falter now.
Apparently the beast wasn't excited to tangle with a large, six foot brick of a man, despite his unarmed status, or thus it appeared as it retreated slightly.
R'ko bent down slightly, and offered Netory his arm.
"I'll carry you back to Desh, and we'll get out of here." He promised, keeping his eyes on the large animal that looked like a feline, only too large.

As her brother came to her rescue the feline left. The pain was still there and she was crying pitifully but her brother's words were being processed. "Okay." She nodded and used her own arms to wrap around his neck. Even if he was a strong man, it probably helped to have her not be a dead weight. The moments flew by quickly for her as they made their way back to Deshenoreth.
She frowned, Netory had so been looking forward to the beach and now she wondered why. The water looked pretty, even now. The girl knew that she wouldn't be permitted to come back to the beach. Her foster parents would be keeping her close for some time. No one would blame R'ko she hoped. He had been so good her.
With a sigh, she let her head rest on his shoulder. Why did this have to happen and ruin a wonderful day?

R'ko carefully strapped in his sister, making her as safe on Desh as he could, wishing it would make up for his horrible negligence before. He would have to report this to the Weyrleader and R'net, and then make sure to warn the Holders as well.
In fact, it might be a good idea to have a bit of a hunting project. R'ko had a feeling that the giant feline would look very good as a rug for his weyr. Smiling wolfishly, R'ko belted himself on to Desh, and with the nervous Dragon's agreement, they lifted off the ground, twinkled in the sun for a few minutes, and then Betweened gracefully.
