Lower Caverns Woman // Candidate

Weyr
Family:
Lilainne, Liv’s mother, died when Liv was four. Liv was the youngest child out of seven. Liv’s mother died at 37 Turns of age. Before her death, Lilainne had been a Lower Caverns Woman // Unofficial songstress.
D’loon, Liv’s father, rode Bronze Ackareth before he died at around 48 Turns of age. He had been the Weyrlingmaster until Ackareth strained his wing. Later the Healer realized that he had actually broken the fragile bones, and they had healed wrong. Ackareth went between when D’loon died.
Morga, the oldest son of Lilainne and D’loon, is 40 Turns of age. He tried for a dragon in his younger Turns, but soon gave up and instead became a drudge when his eyesight failed. He stayed in the future.
D’scal of Blue Bruth died at age 17, but if he had been alive, he would have been 39 Turns old. D’scal had been a Wingsecond, but his accomplishments were not remembered.
Darloon, the oldest daughter of Lilainne and D’loon, is a Lower Caverns Worker. She has at least for children whose father’s she knows. She has many more, and at age 37, that is a lot of children. (She went back to the past at age 25) Darloon watched over Liv when the girl was younger.
Liskal, a Harper of unknown ranking, was just a Turn younger than Darloon before she made the jump back. He travels the northern continent in search of a ballad that would make him well known. He stayed in the future.
Lillia, who died at the tender age of 14 from heart failure, had never been able to create a living for herself. She had always been weak, and her body was like a time bomb just waiting to go off. Liv had never known her.
Dillion, age 22, is the closest sibling to Liv, even if she rarely sees him. Dillion is a Journeyman Healer. He has two children to his name, 7 Turn old Margaree, and 3 Turn old Pellnar. He stayed in the future.
Appearance:
--Probably the most startling features on Liv’s face are her eyes. At first glance, her eyes seem to bore into the unwary onlooker’s own. In truth, though, her eyes show innocence. They are a startling light blue. The outer edges are a slightly darker blue than the rest of her eyes. The main coloring of her eye is a light, icy blue. There are several splashes of lighter color that may even be white. Liv’s eyes succeed in showing only one characteristic, innocence. She rarely shows any emotions in her eyes.
--Liv has a mass of wavy but manageable brown hair. It falls to a little below her shoulders. In good light, her hair gains a blond halo of sorts. In the dimmer lights, Liv’s hair is a shade darker, but not by much. Though her hair is seemingly thick, it actually isn’t, but instead it is silky to the touch. It also doesn’t get tangled, and when it does, she can easily untangle it. Though it is easily long enough to be put back, she would much rather just keep it down.
--The woman’s face easily keeps its innocent appearance. Her eyes are spaced proportionately apart from an almost petite nose. Her lips are a little fuller than a normal woman’s lips. Her jaw line is stubborn, but that only adds to her supposed innocence. She always seems to have some color on her cheeks, too, as if she was caught in the act of doing something wrong. Her sight okay: one eye is 20/20, and the other is 21/20. Her hearing is also exceptional, a little better than her sight. These, combined, help her survey the surrounding area with ease.
--Bordering on 5’7”, Liv is around normal height. She has a lithe figure. Her bosom is of normal size, though a little more full than she would like. Her body once had a vaguely hourglass shape, but when she began o work out her muscles filled in. She admits that she has strong abs, but her upper arm strength is not up to par. She has also never been able to touch her toes. She has a faint scar on her arm, and other small scratches on her arms and legs.
Personality:
-- Contrary to popular belief, Liv is not some soft-spoken beauty. She is vivacious, and though she may choose to keep quiet, she is by no means why. Choosing to be silent is a virtue, and by doing so, she had learned things she otherwise would not have learned.
--Liv has learned to keep her mouth shut. Her life, short as it is, has taught her that to be quiet is the key. She has a beautiful voice, and when she is alone she loves to sing. She loves to create her own tunes and lyrics, but sometimes she sings ballads. She is a very intelligent woman, and when she usually chooses to speak she wants to add her insight to the topic. She likes to carry on a conversation, but would much rather listen than talk.
--Her personality is one of a much more reserved person. She is the kind of person to take in her surroundings as soon as she arrives. She holds with her a certain wisdom that denotes her innocent appearance. Her sight is almost as good as excellent vision, one eye is 20/20, and the other is 21/20. Her hearing is also exceptional, but not as good as her sight. These, combined, help her survey the surrounding area with ease.
--Though Liv is not particularly talkative, she can be a great friend. She always listens and, though she may act like the devil’s advocate, she always tries to help. She is a good secret-keeper, and never tells unless she thinks it is hazardous to health or life. She can be trusted, and likes to trust people, too. She would much rather tell people her emotions, and get them out, than keep them bottled up inside her. She is also a helpful person when gushing about things that hurt. She understands pain and loss almost as much as she understands joy. She can often sympathize with what has been said, or what has been left unsaid.
--Though her face rarely shows her emotions, Liv herself feels them. This is obvious, as she is not a robot. Liv is rarely in a bad moon, but she can’t exactly be called happy all the time, either. In fact, most of the time the woman is carefully neutral. It doesn’t take much to make her happy, and as a lucky addition, it takes a lot more to make her mad. Death, as it should be, and other losses, make her sad. She rarely cries in public, and would rather cry alone.
History:
Lilainne’s first six children were wanted. She wanted as many children as she could have just in case any of them died. As she foretold, Lilainne’s fifth child, a daughter named Lillia, died at a young age. She had always had a bad heart, and finally, one day, her heart burst. Lilainne was horrified, and swore that she would have no more children. Fortunately for Liv, but unfortunately for Lilainne, the woman spent a little too much on wine one fateful Gathering. She and D’loon slept together and nine months later she ended up giving birth to Live. Lilainne named the child Live (but quickly nicknamed her Liv) for her unexpected pregnancy and hard birth. The woman was already so old that she thought she had stopped her monthly bleedings. Instead, she had one last child. Liv seemed to drain the strength from her mother during the months of her gestation. The woman, already starting to weaken from her semi-advanced birthing age, had grown sickly and had almost died when Liv was born.
When she was granted more Turns to live, she took this as a good sign and loved her last daughter like she had never loved her other children. Liv was easily at least fourteen Turns younger than any of her siblings. Lilainne took this into account, and decided to keep the child with her at all times to show her a love that she had not been able to show her other children. Lilainne had been a Holdless woman before she knew that she was pregnant with Live. She had always been traveling, and had never spent enough time in one place. Despite the fact that she would have much rather stayed Holdless, she decided to move to (and settle in) Telgar Weyr.
Telgar accepted the woman and her child with open arms. Though the current Weyrleaders had thought it weird for the woman to carry Liv everywhere, they said nothing. Lilainne’s time with Liv was short, but the girl seemed to relish it. She surprised her mother by learning how to walk early and learning how to talk even earlier. It was a sight to see the small toddler following her mother almost everywhere she went. Lilainne taught Liv to speak and, like any good Harper would, to sing. Though the girl was very young at the time, only around three Turns old, the girl showed a lot of intelligence, and she learned many ballads the Turn before her mother’s death. Lilainne soon discovered that her daughter, though young, would have a wonderful voice. Lilainne could tell that Liv would have an even better voice than hers when she grew up.
But the reign of good times soon came to a screeching halt. Early one morning, after having battled for months for her life against a losing battle with a strain of pneumonia, Lilainne breathed her last. Though Liv was too young to remember, she had often heard her oder sister talk about her mother when she was older, so she feels like she remembers her mother’s death. D’loon, who had been sent to investigate some disturbance near Igen, came back almost immediately and mourned his mate’s death. Ackareth had never Chased because he felt that Lilainne was his mate as well as she had been D’loon’s. And both were crushed by the old Harper’s death.
Instead of having a foster mother, the young girl was raised by her older sister, Darloon. Darloon had trouble watching after the four-Turn-old, and many times she lost track of the girl all together. On one of these times, when the girl was seven Turns, she decided to spy on D’loon. Ackareth knew immediately, of course, but he liked playing these games, and so let Liv sneak up on her father. Not for the first time was D’loon surprised, but instead of dropping the sharp knife he had been holding, he spun around and (unintentionally) cut her on the arm. The Healer told her that it would heal, but she would have a scar for a while, maybe for the rest of her life. At her current age it has all but faded away.
It was around that time when Telgar was thinking of creating a new Hold. The people choosing to go back in time, mainly Holders, but a couple of others, knew that they would have little to no contact with the outside world for the rest of their lives, and no contact with the people they knew and remembered. The Weyrleaders came to Darloon to tell her that she and her children would go back in time with the Holders. They thought this would be good because of her pack of children, and if they were going to grow in time, the Weyr would already have more children for Impression prefrences. Despite the fact that Darloon had no say in the matter, Darloon thought this would be an excellent way to make a new life. She thought that, even though she was a Lower Caverns Woman, she could go and, bringing her children with her, begin the life she had always wanted. As an added bonus, Darloon and her children were easily forgettable, they didn't need to 'fake their deaths.'
Then Darloon thought about bringing along Liv. After asking D’loon, she decided to take along her youngest sister. Liv was thrilled to go. The Weyr set a date to go back, and then, after the Holders had mounted their dragons with what few worldly accessories they had left, the dragons jumped into the air. After a brief pause, the world flashed away and the large group traveled between.
It was hard to cope with the Southern Continent in some ways, and not so hard in others. Having been raised in the colder climates of the Northern Continent, many people were at first stunned, and then they loved the Southern Continent. But with the warmth came new troubles. These troubles included, but were not limited to, new growth patterns, scorching heat, and disease. Wait, wasn’t disease what the ‘colonists’ were trying to avoid? Though illness took a couple lives, this was readily avoidable with the right medications and genes. Some people had still retained the genes that immunized them from the brunt of the attack.
Liv, then seven Turns old, and her sister, were one of those people. Since she was old enough to help and not get in the way, and she was one of the more able-bodied children, work was given to her. At first the jobs were odd, take this to some person, sort the papers, go remind him, keep the other children entertained. Liv disliked this last request, and normally shied away from it, complaining as much as she could. But when she was finally recognized for her work, Darloon knew she needed harder work. Soon, the girl was actually helping out with the creation of the Hold. Now she was asked to complete harder tasks, which suited her well.
This continued for at least a Turn. After the girl finished many of the more useful tasks, she began to attend the school that had just been started for the children. In school she learned new ballads, even a ballad about the founding of Star Hold. She also learned many teaching ballads, though most of those she had already memorized. The girl didn’t like to sing aloud, but whenever she could, she sang along. No one ever heard her except for Darloon, who often eavesdropped to hear her sister’s beautiful voice.
Despite what Darloon said about her voice, the girl continued to keep it as her won. She wasn’t shy, necessarily, but she thought her voice was horrible. She would only sing alone, never with a group. For this, Liv had to memorize the ballads quickly. Sometimes ‘quickly’ meant getting a couple verses wrong, but Liv would always ask to clarify what she had gotten wrong and what she had not. Coupled with her voracious apatite for learning, the girl was a monster for ballads. The more she grew, the more she wanted to learn harder subjects.
At ten Turns, she had already devoured most of the ballads and had learned all but the hardest of maths. Every other child looked up to her for her amazing skills, but no matter how much they asked, she would never sing. Soon she focused more on the going-ons of the Hold than on ballads she had already learned. Darloon now had at least five children-she was forever losing track of them. Liv was always asked to watch those children, even though she disliked doing so.
Someone once asked Liv why she was named that way. Liv had smiled sweetly and said, “My name is spelled Live, but said Liv.” And then she proceeded to tell of why she was named such an unusual name. “My mother named me Live because she was afraid I was going to die. She thought I would live if she named me Live. I don’t remember when she died, but I do remember that she named me my name, and I will keep it with me forever. A remembrance.” Then she would say nothing more on the subject.
At eighteen, the girl heard talk of a new Weyr being made. Nova Weyr, they called it. She decided that if they were in need of any caverns women (or at least baby sitters), she could help them. She asked to help with the Weyr and, not surprisingly, she was accepted. Now, a Turn later, the girl helps the other women with the newly-made Weyr. She has made up her mind so that if she is Searched, no matter what, she would stand for Impression.
