Bescar (8): A bit of a hellion but also a rather funny kid. He has a sense of humor and an adventurous side that get him into trouble.
Roany (5) : Although a very pleasant little girl, she seems to have not been given her share of brains. That isn't to say she's a deadglow but she isn't necessarily someone you would see as highly intelligent.
Appearance:
(Georgie Henley)
Netory has dark reddish brown hair with a natural wave in it, much like her mother. The girl’s eyebrows are slightly lighter than her hair and thin but well shaped. Her round blue eyes peer out from beneath a set of dark lashes. Pale skinned as she is, her face is graced with an abundance of small freckles, especially on her nose.
The girl is average in height for her age at 4’6”. Her build is not athletic, nor is she completely weak. She has the look of someone of an average build. Nose is slightly tipped upward at the end but wide enough that it gives off a cuteness that is very nice on her face. The rosy cheeked girl has a matching pair of lips that are neither full nor thin, but wide. Netory has been said to have a beautiful smile. Her adult teeth are all grown in and pearly white. Her cheeks can dimple at times when she smiles, something that greatly annoys her.
The young girl has been going through her share of clothes lately. Netory is growing in spurts which have been startling considering her mother is not a very tall woman. The girl does wear what most children where at the Weyr. Her woolen dresses are not particularly colorful but they do provide necessary covering and warmth when it is cold. For celebrations she has a pretty dress that her mother had made for her. It is a lovely light blue color that compares well with her hair as well as with her eyes and skin tone.
Personality:
Children have a knack for thinking themselves invincible and who could blame Netory for believing the same. She thinks very highly of herself, to the point where she comes across as an arrogant know it all to the other children. The truth is, she does know quite a lot about a lot of things but she doesn’t know when to stop sharing this knowledge with other people. She is a realist and is not easily given into fanciful thoughts or ideas. That isn’t to say she doesn’t think outside the proverbial box, on the contrary, she likes to have ideas. These ideas are well planned and have a sensible almost logical thought process behind them.
While fairly intelligent and outgoing, Netory does not really play with other kids her age. They aren’t as interested in the real things that are going on in the world and they tend to make her feel like she isn’t one of them. Netory would prefer to talk to grown ups. Not only are they all nice to her but they don’t try to steal her spotlight. Netory is outgoing to the point where most people find her either annoying or amusing… sometimes both. She can run her mouth with the best of them but half of what comes out of her mouth is actually not what you would normally hear from a nine turn old. She knows very well who she is and what she is capable of.
This self confidence also makes her incredibly charming. She has that quality about her that makes her peers look up to her and believe that whatever she is saying is the truth. She can spin a tale like a Harper if it suits her needs and it usually is a great way to wrap people around her little finger. Even as a little girl she can be somewhat manipulative. Though she still has that rosy cheeked innocence that many little girls have she is not someone that has ever really been completely innocent. She was born into a world where titles mean something and lineage can get you what you want.
Netory likes to spend time watching dragons at the lake. Not only is it one of her favorite places but she absolutely loves the water. For not being much of a kid, she does enjoy swimming and playing in the lake. While her parent’s dragons are some of the largest dragons at the Weyr, being Gold and Bronze, Netory doesn’t think they are so much different from the smaller ones. Though it is evident that she has interest in dragons, no one yet knows what her potential could be.
The girl has a strained relationship with her father but a strong one with her half brother, R’ko. He is almost like a father to her at times. Her mother does what she can to spend time with her and her little brother, but Netory can sense it bothers her to not be as involved with their lives as a drudge would be. Grown ups were forever making things more complicated. Netory understands that with rank comes responsibility to the Weyr over responsibility to one’s family. Her uncle K’dyn was a good example. She likes him too but misses her cousin Goldwyn since they were the same age and rather close. Her foster parents love her to death, they even left Telgar, their home, to take care of her at Nova. To a holder this would be a complex situation, Netory considers herself lucky to have two mothers, two fathers and other relatives who want her with them. (This may also add a little to her already big ego.)
History:
Netory was born the first child from the union of her parents Neory, the junior Weyrwoman of Telgar at the time, and R’net the rider of a Bronze. That would have been enough to set the infant apart from others but she had more lineage than simply her parents. From the time she was a baby, Netory was well cared for, not only by her mother but by her nursemaids and later by her foster family. Her mother was a busy woman so when Netory was finally weaned, she was fostered out.
Her foster mother was a young woman of about twenty two when she moved in. Besany was already a mother of one, a son who is a turn younger than Netory, Bescar. Her foster parents were already weyrmated and were wonderful with children, even children who were as spoiled as Netory was when she came to them. Besany had a wonderfully calming voice that soothed Netory whenever she was sad and Roscar always had a new game to play with her and Bescar. Never did they treat her as anything but part of their family.
Netory was by no means a perfect child. She expected the world to revolve around her but finding that wasn’t the case would often throw fits. Besany did not let the girl get away with that sort of behavior and from the very beginning of any fit; she would ignore Netory until the girl found she still wasn’t having her way. Netory was not the smartest girl in her weyrbrat lessons but much was expected of her. In fact, the Weyr expected more from a little girl with the right heritage than a full grown man who was simply seen as a drudge. This concept was not lost on her. At about the age of six she began to understand that the world could revolve around her if she wanted it to. With this revelation she also discovered that she was different from almost every other child at the Weyr.
It happened one day when she was in the Weyrhall for lunch. The boy next to her had gotten the last slice of bubbly pie. Netory was greatly upset. The boy wasn’t going to share so, Netory looked across the table to the Creche nanny seated there and asked in a charming fashion, “Where is my bubbly pie?” The nanny, not seeing any bubbly pies left at their table, scurried off to find her one. When she returned with the bubbly and gave it to Netory another kid asked for a bubbly. Her response was she had done enough running around and saw no reason why she should wait on any more children.
While Netory should have grown very arrogant with that knowledge, flaunting it in the face of other weyrbrats would do nothing for her. What did they care that her parents were powerful leaders? She was very caught up in the world that she lived in, so much so that she often spent more time trying to understand adult concepts than playing. Her lessons did occupy many of her thoughts, even lessons on etiquette which she did well in. Things like counting were easier for her, than writing, though she had better handwriting than some. Reading was average for her, she stumbled on the words she didn’t know but with practice she became better and faster at it. Comprehension of what was read was better than average partly because she understood more than any young girl child should.
Since she was born, Thread has been falling from the skies. The silvery menace is probably the scariest thing that could possibly exist to Netory. Other than Thread, Netory has known a life of over protection and for the most part, joy. She doesn’t know how lucky she is that no one in her family has been killed by plague or Thread. Her younger brother was born when she was about six and while she welcomed having a sibling she doesn’t really spend much time with him. He isn’t really interesting yet since he is only three. She much prefers the company of her older half brother, R’ko.
Her mother told her recently that they would be leaving here to go to a brand new Weyr. First Netory smiled then upon thinking things out, she frowned. Would her other family members be going? Would her foster family come? She didn’t want to leave them. She didn’t want to leave anyone behind. As a child she did not have a say but as the daughter of Neory, she knew her mother would listen to a request if it was from her heart. Her mother assured her that her family would be coming with her. Netory knew how to keep her mouth shut on the issue and since she didn’t really converse much with other children, it was easily done.
The trip Between was cold, colder than she had ever been before. It still makes her shiver to think about it. Her foster family and biological family are all moved into their new residences including the room she shares with her foster sister, Roany. The nine turn old is much more interested in exploring the new Weyr than in starting lessons again.
