Neoret, Son, 3, Weyrbrat, by Goldrider Neory of Sheluth
Appearance:
Auburn hair is clipped short on this man, with a ruggedly good looking face to match is rather nice hair. His hair is soft and though short, one could easily imagine how nice it would look grown out like a holder. His eyes are wide and hazel, with flecks of other colors, or shades of green and brown, that continually changes places. His eyebrow are large, but well defined, and shapely. His nose is rather thin and sharp, and his cheekbones high and well defined. His chin juts out stubbornly, and his forehead shows a little more each year as his hairline slowly retreats. His face is also weatherbeaten, and he has his own fair share of power and age wrinkles. After all, for the majority of his life, he's been in power, and that life grows longer each year.
He’s tall- though no more than the average Pernese man, standing at just below six feet, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, which, as he ages is starting to develop a paunch. He’s not meant for long distance running, but at a sprint, the Bronze rider can beat the average person. His legs strong, and lack the chub of his youth. He’s powerfully built, and though no match for a Smith or Miner, the rider is toned from all his work on Torenth. His legs are rather hairy, but his chest hair is lighter, and doesn’t cover as much area. His hands are soft from the various oils he often applies to Torenth and Torenth’s harness. He has random freckles all over his body from exposure to the sun, and a deep tan as well.
Nice clothes are a must, as he must uphold the honor of the Weyr, and represent his status as a Weyrsecond, as the Grandson of his Grandmother, and then finally, as simply a Bronze of his Weyr. His leathers and cloth clothing is all nice, and created just for him. Since Weyrling and Candidates were always taught useful skills, he can repair is own clothing, and often does. As long as the clothing appears to be new and classy, appearances are kept up, and R’net feels fine. He tends to prefer blues and purples as colors to wear, with the occasional red thing, and lots of browns. R’net also has a few to many pairs of slippers. The man doesn’t like shoes, but if he has to wear them, then they will be comfortable.
Personality:
Just like any other Bronzerider, somewhere in his core, their is an understanding and appreciation of duty. R’net is fully capable of leading a Wing, a Weyr, or a Hold- just like any other Bronzerider. He’s been trained since Weyrlinghood(and in many people’s eyes, since before that too), to run things, to lead- to be someone people look to in emergency. While a youth, he avoid power until he dumped it into his lap when he ran the first time travel trip. He hasn't been able to avoid it since, and while he wasn't exactly excited to travel through time again, he knew that he had no real choice, and unlike others, his family came with him.
He works hard, checks on his riders, knows who is having relationship probably, family drama, or has a new child. Though to some it may seem an inability not to try and find out gossip, R’net wants to make sure everyone is handling everything well- a Wingrider with a bad case of drama isn’t one you want practicing firestone drills for long periods of time- at least not before they’ve had a chance to work things out.
He’s a personable fellow, and able to charm most people into giving him what he wants. He honestly likes people, and doesn’t usually spend very much time alone. While some riders enjoy taking long rides on their Dragon to be alone, R’net and Torenth spend their time together at the lake, watching other riders, and laughing at their own conversation.
Though a personable fellow, R’net has always had trouble making close friends. For all his life, he’s had Mari to act as a best friend, and many others of his own age to be around. Tor is his other best friend- to lose either of them would be incredibly difficult and crushing. And while his dragon has kept around, Mari did die during one of the plagues. Her death crushed him, and it took throwing himself entirely into being a father, and a leader to drag himself out of that whole, and he still hasn't found a friend like Mari, because Neory is his Weyrmate, and she can't be what Mari was. He is able to cope however, though he still misses her.
His charm also allows him to be a very good flirt- though, if you listened to Torenth speak about it, you’d think the bronze taught R’net everything he knew. Both of them are successful in their trysts, and both have the offspring to prove it.
While he was often an absent father while R'ko was younger, after Mari's death, and his place in the running of the Timing Children, he grew far closer to his son. And with Neory being the way she is, he's been close to his two children with her, which isn't a problem for him, though he doesn't feel at all worried about not seeing them for long periods of time: they do have Foster families.
Thread, while a mystical enemy when he was a Weyrling, has become a real threat, and while he had been initially excited for it, it had taken a single threadscore to change his mind on that.
R’net has no real problem of a temper- he’s been well trained not to have one, as they tend to make things difficult. He’s always trying to be helpful, and prevent an argument from ever happening. Even when he is angry, he’ll pretend not to be, and blow off steam to Torenth later.
He and Torenth have an exceedingly tight bond- they both have problems blocking the other out. This causes problems whenever one of them gets hurt- especially when something happens to R’net. They work hard on blocking, but it remains difficult.
Mari, or Marisol, his grandmother, is possibly his favorite person in the world. She’s more than a mother or a grandmother, being a dear friend. She understands him(and spoils him a little) and she brought him and Torenth together. She’s had another, more lastly effect on the young bronzerider, and that is that he won’t settle for a woman who is less than her in anyway. He enjoys how intelligent, powerful, and poised she is, and the only woman he'll ever love will have impeccable taste, and a cause.
Also, R’net loves women. Women love R’net too.
Well, other than the current Telgar Weyrwoman. Neither of them like each other very much, and it was a relief to be gone from Telgar. After his ten turns away from her, it was hard to return to her Weyr, and getting away from Elisha was bliss. They've gotten more understanding of each other, but they'll never be close.
Besides, he has his Neory, even if they shouldn't be together, an idea he keeps close to his heart, and tries to keep from thinking about, with his hidden core of that knows of his faults and problems.
History:
Born to a drudge woman(the daughter of the Weyrwoman of Telgar), R’net doesn’t remember much of his early years. He vaguely remembers his mother as a nervous, fidgety woman whose eyes were always looking around, and was always obedient. He remembers even less of his father, a man who he remembers being gruff and quiet.
When he was six his Grandmother, the Weyrwoman Marisol, demanded that he come live in the Weyr. R’net doesn’t remember what his mother thought of that, but she did give in- no one disobeys Mari and gets away with it. No children followed R’net, but Reisol was never the strongest in body(or mind) and R’net had been a difficult birth.
His first years at the Weyr were filled with wonders of all sorts. R’net, then called Reinet, was infatuated by Dragons as soon as he became aware of them. Blues, Greens, Golds, Browns and Bronzes- he loved them all. He learned names, habits, and even different styles of flying. He learned about the inner rivalries between all of the different wings, how a good Wingleader conducts himself, and why gossip is fun. He even made a good friend who was a Greenrider Weyrling who would tell him all of the good gossip.
During this useful years, R’net also got to know his grandmother better. She’d usually take a half hour or so once or twice a month and be with him. At this point, R’net knew she was someone special, but it didn’t make him change that much around her. He’d tell her the things he’d heard around, or what the crèche was doing, or whatever else. R’net has always enjoyed speaking, and little boys rarely know restraint. Occasionally, his grandmother allowed him to help bath her Queen- and that became his biggest treat, as the Queen was his current favorite dragon. Mari also spoilt him a little- as was her right- and R’net remembers her being the best part of his first six years of the Weyr.
As it always happens with little children, time flies by. He got caught doing tricks on people, he got into fights with friends, he made more friends, he snuck off with bubbly pies, he discovered faster ways of getting through the Weyr, and he turned twelve.
The exciting thing about being twelve(at least for boys) was that you were marched over the Candidate Master Office the day of, or in some cases, the day after your birthday, and signed up as a candidate, your cot picked out, and you moved on from being a weyrbrat to being a Candidate(with a very capital C). Then you had chores and lessons for until the next hatching- but becoming a Candidate was a very big deal.
Most of the lessons were meant for Holder or Crafter children who’d been searched, and R’net was entirely bored with them. Of course Greens didn’t lay eggs, and of course Blues didn’t become Wingseconds! Of course the Weyrleader was decided by Flight, and naturally the first Gold to fly after the Senior Queen retired because Weyrwoman!
Several months later when Mari’s Beynath clutched an impressive clutch, R’net felt good about his chances of Impressing. He spent every second he could with these eggs- with the class and without. One of the benefits of Mari being his grandmother was that he could visit her and Beynath’s eggs without it being illegal or illicit. It was also something the other boys in his class disliked, and for the period of time that the eggs were hardening, R’net found himself shunned by the other boys. It didn’t bother him enough for him to stop his visits, but he did end up spending more of his free time with actual Dragonriding friends.
The hatching did not come quickly enough for R’net, but it came soon enough. While finishing his laundry chores, the peculiar humming began to rumble through the Weyr. Quickly racing back to gather his white candidate’s robes, the boy was soon standing at the entrance of the stands, waiting for the Candidate’s Master to let them enter. After some boring speech about how not Impressing didn’t change anything, and how there were other chances, all of the candidates were standing in a rough almost circle around the eggs.
The boy did not impress. In fact, he did not Impress for another four turns. Four turns of wondering why he wasn’t blessed. There were few Bronzes(something he took into consideration when it came to not Impressing, as he belonged on a Bronze), and the people who Impressed the six or so clutched Bronzes truly did deserve them.
At sixteen, he was sure that he would Impress, just as he was sure he would Impress at all of the other clutches. And while he failed to Impress at Adeloth’s clutch(It lacked Bronzes anyway), Beynath’s 47th clutch was R’net’s special clutch.
The first two eggs broke quickly, the first one a brown, the second a bronze- both good omens for the clutch R’net remembered quickly. He doubted he’d be one of the first to impress- after all, most bronzes took their time, even if greens and blues tended to rush to who they wanted. Because of that, it was a surprise when the first(and only) bronze of the clutch ambled quickly over to where a boy who’d been left standing for nearly five turns and declared in a loud voice(in said boys head) that 'I am Torenth, you are R’net, and you will feed me now'.
Shouting to the crowd “His name is Torenth!”, the newest weyrling rushed off to find food for his darling, amazing, wonderful, Torenth.
Weyrlinghood was a blur for both of them. R’net was of the same size as most of the other candidates in the clutch, but Torenth was always the biggest dragon of that clutch. Trying to keep up with that much hide, that much food, and more information(he had to know everything better if he ever wanted to be a Wing- or Weyrleader), was always that much harder. R’net was thankful for every second of rest he could get.
Graduating two years later, R’net was quickly tapped by the Triveni Wing- they suited him well, as the boy had calmed from pranks and things since becoming a Weyrling. He liked the Wingleader, and enjoyed hearing of the antics of the other wings. Not having to deal with the fallout of Zahra’s pranks, or Pyralis tempers was a definite plus, and R’net has never wanted to change wings.
When Tor had settled into being a Wingriding dragon, he also grew interested in flying in one of the numerous Greenflights. R’net, though he knew what happened in Flights, was confused about what he should actually do. This led him to going and seeing Mari, and asking for an explanation of what he needed too do, say, and act like. Mari gave him a good, long talk, with loads of good advice. R’net grew used to the idea, and while they began occasionally participating in flights, at that point in time, Tor wasn’t as good at flying as any of the other dragons he was competing against. They didn’t win any flights until R’net was nearly nineteen. After that, Torenth seemed to get into the swing of things, and was quite successful.
At around twenty, one of the Wingseconds decided he was getting older, and that retiring was probably a good idea. R’net still isn’t sure if the man decided it on his own, or if a certain relative of his had suggested it to the man. He knew that the man had received a pleasant place to stay in Ista, and doesn’t think to much of it these days.
The upswing of this was that R’net was taken on as a wingsecond. He’s performed his duties admirably over the last five or so turns, and is known for knowing gossip as well as any washerwoman, or any Greenrider.
Around four turns ago, something special occurred. R’net flew in a green flight with a rider named Mariko, and won. She was injured a few days later in a practice drill in her wing, and barred from betweening for a few months. Distracted by pain, and knowing that stress, especially the kind she was undergoing, could stop her period. She didn’t think that she could be pregnant, as she’d had no experience of that so far in her life. When it turned out she actually was, and was, in fact, planning on keeping the baby, R’net nearly had a heart attack. He’d never planned on having kids, and even when he’d entertained the notion, he’d always thought he’d have an actual relationship with the woman involved.
When his son was born, he’d gotten over his initial shock(and initial reaction of running up to Mari, informing her, and then getting mildly drunk). The two riders decided on a name(Reiko), and while they aren’t best friends, they do know each other fairly well... now.
Several interesting events occurred during this time: the Weyrleader being exiled for something as silly as the Holdbred Weyrwoman not being able to keep him interested. While R’net has little like of the current Weyrwoman, her being single is still and interesting factor- after all, Bronzes must rise, when the Queen is in the skies!
Edit
R’net has more important things to do now than chase Queens. When Mari died, she left him a legacy that in many ways destroys all of his somewhat carefully laid plans. It means missing out on Neory’s first flight, and her the Junior Weyrwoman, and a friend, it means giving up ten years of his life, but it means staying close with his son, and giving the Weyr what it needs.
He’s in charge of the mission for raising up enough kids to help out with the next clutches in the Weyr, so that they can offer enough candidates, despite the lack of children in the correct age range. Timing It sounds dangerous, and R’net isn’t sure of all of the side effects, but they will stick it out. They have too: Telgar Weyr’s future is at stake.
The fact that he’ll be able to train the future riders of Telgar is an added benefit.
And thus ten years went by. During which, he Flew Neory, because his report took place at the same time as her flight, his son grew up, and he formed a fairly tight knit community. And then he returned, and for twelve more turns, life changed monumentally.
The first big change after returning, was becoming Weyrsecond, and the second was Neory herself. R'net knew, that as her Pet Bronzer, that she might want him to use until she was better in place as the junior Weyrwoman. He'd never thought she would want him- already in his thirties, as a Weyrmate. And their courtship was in no way easy, or particularly fun for either. He is too old for her, he is not acceptable, but neither is anyone else.
And even to this day, it doesn't take much to set him off about how he's unsuitable, he just keeps it to himself these days. But Neory is perfect, so other than his problems, they have a perfect relationship. And they have children. And he likes them, so that's just as well.
Building up this Weyr was the third surprise, and a very pleasant one. He liked being a leader during his experiences Timing it, and here he would have had an excellent chance at becoming Weyrleader without making Neory a very angry Goldrider. Then Igen got in on it, and now he's not exactly sure what to think. Obviously, with R'net perchance for gossip, he knows at least a bit about Laszreen and Jenafa, but now that Laszreen is here, life is growing far more complicated.

Dragon Info:
Name:
Torenth
Age:
33
Color:
Bronze
Appearance:
The bronze is large- not the largest in the Weyr, not even by a long shot, but a good sized, and well proportioned dragon. His coloring is on the darker side, with almost brown edges. He’s definitely not the most striking bronze, which is why it’s a good thing he can fly with the wind.
He's been scored several times during the turns of Thread. Twice it was actually something that required a week off of flight to heal. The first time took a chunk out of his tail, which is still pitted looking. The second, his back was scored, wide rather than deep. There was great fear of infection, but Torenth managed to avoid that. There is still a pale section on his back from that, however.
Personality:
Tor is a confident, happy fellow. He suffers from Greenfever more than Goldfever, despite his close relationship with Sheluth(much to R'net's dismay), enjoys sunning and bathing, and likes to show off. Though his rider belongs to the sturdy and dependable Wing, whenever he possibly can, Torenth shows off his flying ability. Though a late bloomer, flying wise, Tor doesn’t remember that far back, and will brag endlessly about how he has been flying like this since he was scarcely hatched. R’net rarely bothers to correct him, finding the tales Torenth tells incredibly amusing.
His feelings on people are always changing, and his ideas are different every day. His memory lasts about a day, but he pretends that he remembers for a longer time than that by checking on what has happened lately in R’net’s mind.
He’s endlessly sunny, and has has never had a bad day that either of them can remember. He enjoys flirting, mostly with Sheluth, but his Greens are also a part of his life.
Thread is something he hates, possibly the only thing he hates, and the Bronze is through in his attempts to eradicate the pestilence.
History:
Torenth remembers some of the things about his life.
He remembers the beginning, when none were right for him, except one. He remembers the feeling of a name coming to him, and a name for the one who was right. He remembers telling giving out the names with pride.
He remembers his first flight(no matter how hard he tries to forget). How it felt to be in the air, and circling gently, with a distinct lack of grace.
He remembers the first time they went Between, and how scared R’net was, though he tried to hide it.
He remembers his first Chase(another thing he tries to forget), and losing to a Blue.
He remembers his first winning Chase, and how good it felt.
He remembers the shock he felt when they became Wingseconds.
He also remembers the birth of R’net’s child.
Then when he caught Sheluth. And when he caught Sheluth again.
But mostly he remembers the last herdbeast he ate, and how that was four days ago, and he’s starting to get hungry.
